Why is education so important?
Education is for life-it is an investment, and one that cannot be lost, spent or taken away. A good education prepares young people to build on their abilities and it sets them up for lifelong learning. A good education gives a young person the tools so that they can confidently seize opportunities that become available to them throughout their lives.
Young people need to have a vision of the future they want, and be equipped to make it a reality. They need to be able to understand the pathways that are open to them, identify their own strengths, and make choices that will lead to a fulfilling and challenging career and a happy and productive life.
However for many young South Africans the passageway from the vision of a successful future to the reality of it is inaccessible due to the financial restraints that they live under.
This is where the KiDS Foundation steps in and provides the means for its scholars to dream big and make those dreams a reality. How do we do that? We do it by providing financial support, mentorship, and extra-curricular support. We create a partnership between the scholars, their families and the schools they attend and this partnership increases their chances of succeeding as they manage their move to independence and adult life.
By providing young people from financially disadvantaged backgrounds with educational opportunities, The KiDS Foundation is enabling future generations of South Africans access to the tools needed to meet the demands of the workplaces of tomorrow.
