KiDS Scholarship
The KiDS Foundation has 130 scholars enrolled at fourteen High Schools in and around Cape Town. Scholars are enrolled from Grade 8 to Grade 12. As scholars matriculate new scholars are enrolled.
A KiDS Foundation scholarship is awarded to those students who meet with the criteria as set out by the Foundation. Students are recommended to the Foundation by the Principals at the schools with which we work as well as from feeder primary schools with who the secondary schools work with. Scholars are accepted from all races and religions with the main criteria being that the scholar has a parent or guardian who will offer encouragement and support where necessary and that the scholar has demonstrated a desire to achieve to their maximum potential and wishes to go on and lead a successful life and thus contribute to the future of South Africa.
The new potential scholars are interviewed annually and parents or guardians must attend. The KiDS Foundation Code of Conduct is explained to the scholars and their parents so that they understand that the scholarship may be lost if the Code of Conduct is not adhered too.
The KiDS Foundation scholarship is an opportunity that is sought by many pupils and it is offered to those scholars who have a strong desire to achieve. The KiDS Foundation is not a bursary that has to be paid back. The Foundation does however ask its scholars to pledge to one day help another KiDS Foundation scholar when they have achieved success in their own lives.
The KiDS Foundation requires a minimum 60% aggregate from its scholars and provides extra lessons in those subjects where students are having difficulty. Mathematics support is utilized by the majority of scholars at all schools. The cost for this support is borne by The KiDS Foundation.
Each scholar is assigned their own scholar facilitator whose responsibility it is to ensure that the scholars achieve to their highest potential. The scholar facilitators are all qualified educators familiar with the South African High School Curriculum.
The KiDS Foundation encourages its scholars to participate in all activities within the school curriculum including sport and cultural interests. All financial obligations are met by the Foundation. The KiDS Foundation provides get-togethers, life skill camps and outings for its scholars. These events provide excellent opportunities for the board and scholars to discuss difficulties and successes away from the school environment. They also increase camaraderie between the scholars who attend different schools but who exist as KiDS Foundation Scholars and of whom we are very proud.
The KiDS Foundation celebrates the success of its matriculants every year with a luncheon that is attended by the full board and the scholars. The end of their High School years are merely the beginning of the journey into independence and adulthood and the KiDS Foundation is committed to assist its scholars until the education process is complete and the scholars are ready to enter the working world as fully educated, confident young people of South Africa.
